This year Estonian National Opera will pay homage to one of the most beloved Italian composers and masters of bel canto, Gioachino Rossini, the year 2023 marking the passing of 155 years from his death. A prolific author of 39 operas, he has created masterpieces both in the genre of comic and serious opera. Who would not know a melody from “The Barber of Seville” or “Cinderella” or would not recognise the overture to “William Tell”? Vana Tallinn Gala features delicious moments from Rossini’s music and brings to you fresh young Estonian voices who excelled in various competitions in previous years: Annabel Soode (winner of the 4th State Vocalists Competition, 3rd place at the Vello Jürna Vocalists Competition), Tuuri Dede (3rd place at the Vello Jürna Vocalists Competition) and the Estonian National Opera chorus soloists, soprano Kadri Kõrvek (2nd place and Vanemuine Theatre special prize at the Vello Jürna Vocal Competition) and tenor Yixuan Wang (2nd place at the 4th State Vocalists Competition, winner of the Vello Jürna Vocalists Competition). Guest soloists include Samy Camps (France), a brilliant Alfredo in Verdi’s “La traviata” and Ani Yorentz (Armenia) who charmed the audiences with Mrs. Ford in the concert performances of Verdi’s “Falstaff” last season.
